Career Preparation Phase

Career Preparation Period (CPP) is the first stage of center training. In general, this phase will last about 60 days. Students who meet the following criteria may be able to matriculate through this phase in a shorter period of time, the criteria are:

  • Has High School Diploma or GED
  • Has a Math and Reading TABE  of at least 575
  • Has held at least one job successfully or college experience
  • On the other hand, some student may need additional time in this phase to ensure they meet all objectives.

During this phase, the student will:

  • Become acclimated to center life
  • Receive basic health and wellness care
  • Take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
  • Learn employability, job search and computer skills
  • Visit and learn about the One Stop Center
  • Learn center's expectation and standards
  • Participate in Center Based Work-Based Learning (WBL)
  • Learn and practice Career Success Standards (CSS)
  • Develop Leadership Skills
  • Receive Customer Service training
  • Receive Water Safety training
  • Take the ASVAB test for the military
  • Update Personal Career Development Plan (PCDP)
  • Set Career Goals through My Pathway to Achieving Career Excellence (MyPACE)
  • Receive an Evaluation of Student Progress (ESP) panel

Students will receive a variety of items during their first week to include, but not limited to:

  • Student's ID, must be worn at all times
  • Uniforms, must be worn during the training day only
  • Ditty Bag, a bag full of personal items to get you started with your career (residential students only)
  • Student Network login account/Email Account
  • Flash Drive
  • $25 Arrival Pay

Students can receive a pass during their first 60 days on Center except for students who are required to participate in TEAP (Trainee Employee Assistance Program) which he/she cannot receive a pass the weekend before he/she second test.

WEEK 4 Introduction to Information Management Career Success Standards Project/MyPace
WEEK 5 Center based, Work-based Learning Career Success Standards Project/MyPace
WEEK 6 Introduction to Career Transitions Readiness Career Success Standards Project/MyPace
WEEK 7 Career Development Readiness Career Success Standards Project/MyPace

At the conclusion of this phase, you will enter the Career Development Phase of the program.
